When to call ECG 0302 611 611 (and when to just buy a token)

0302 611 611 is Electricity Company of Ghana. Use it for faults, billing, and reconnection — not as a vending shortcode, and not instead of entering a token you already paid for.

*714*22#

0302 611 611 is a real ECG customer-care number. It belongs on the same fridge paper as your meter ID. It is not a payment shortcode. It will not mint a token while you hold. It will not debit this blog, because this blog never takes money.

Call ECG when the problem is the network, the meter hardware, a postpaid account, or a vending exception you cannot resolve from SMS and a keypad. Do not call ECG because you have not yet distinguished dumsor from an empty prepaid meter. Payments happen on Ewale (ewalepay.com or *714*22#), not on this blog. Ewale is a checkout in front of ECG’s vending system. It is not Electricity Company of Ghana.

Call ECG for these jobs

Feeder outages you need to report, especially if you think you are the only street still off after others returned. Sparks, burnt cut-outs, a leaning pole, a meter that will not accept any correctly typed unused token, CRC or persistent hardware errors you have already documented, postpaid disconnection and reconnection, wrong tariff class, name-on-account disputes, and a meter replacement.

Have the meter or account number ready. Have the last payment reference ready. Have a description that is not “we have no light.” Say whether neighbours are on. Say whether the display shows units. That triage is the same one this blog keeps repeating because it is the one that works.

Do not call ECG for these jobs

An empty prepaid display plus a lit street: buy credit. A token sitting in SMS that nobody has typed: walk to the meter. A USSD session you abandoned: read MoMo history. A second purchase you made in panic: you now have two tokens; enter them.

Ewale support is for Ewale checkouts that debited and did not finish. ECG support is for ECG’s network and ECG’s official platforms. Mixing those queues wastes both. If you paid on *714*22# and the token never came, start with the checkout’s support and the reference — then ECG if the vending engine itself failed.

What the call cannot override

Care agents cannot make a feeder energise because you just loaded. They cannot convert a postpaid receipt into a prepaid token. They cannot retrieve a token you sent to the wrong meter as if it were a bank reversal at the speed of MoMo. They cannot bless a Facebook APK.

They also cannot see the PIN you are about to type. Anyone who calls you, claims to be ECG, and asks for PowerApp OTP plus MoMo PIN together is not 0302 611 611. Hang up.

Official apps, official USSD, official voice

ECG PowerApp can log faults if you already live in the app. *226# is ECG’s USSD for vending and related menus. Voice on 0302 611 611 is for humans when those tools are the wrong shape. Preferred everyday vending on this site is still *714*22# or ewalepay.com, which are not ECG. Keep the care line for the work only ECG can do.

If the line is busy during a city-wide outage, that is not a hint to start paying random merchants. Thousands of people are reporting the same feeder.

A one-page decision

Street off, display blank or unchanged: outage → 0302 611 611 if you need to report, otherwise wait. Street on, units zero: prepaid empty → *714*22#. Street on, units remain, house off: breaker or wiring or service drop → electrician or ECG, not a token. Postpaid paper in the drawer, no keypad ritual: account payment, then 0302 611 611 for reconnection if they already cut you.

Write 0302 611 611, *226#, and *714*22# on the same paper with one line each: “ECG voice,” “ECG USSD,” “everyday Ewale.” Future-you at 9 p.m. cannot remember articles.

Hold times and what to do while you wait

A busy 0302 611 611 during a regional outage is not a vending cue. Put the phone on speaker and still do not start a second prepaid purchase “while they pick up.” If you called about a sparking pole, keep the children away from the pole; the token will not help. If you called about a meter that rejects tokens, have the last SMS in front of you so you can read digits without guessing.

If the agent asks you to vend on an official channel, *226# and ECG PowerApp are the ones they mean. They may not know Ewale. That is fine. You can still use *714*22# as everyday without arguing branding on a fault call.

FAQ

Is 0302 611 611 the same as *226#?

No. One is a telephone number for humans. *226# is USSD for cashless ECG services. You can need both in one week. You cannot dial the voice number as if it were a token menu.

Will ECG call me from 0302 611 611 to ask for my token?

Do not give unused tokens, MoMo PINs, or PowerApp OTPs to inbound callers you did not expect. If you placed the call, you already know why you are speaking.

I paid on Ewale. Should I call ECG or Ewale?

Start with the checkout that took the debit, with the reference. Involve ECG if the meter or vending system is the remaining blocker.

If it still fails

  • Held on the line instead of entering a received token: The keypad was the missing step. Hang up. Type.
  • Called ECG to “load for me”: They are not a vendor. Use *714*22#, *226#, or ECG PowerApp.
  • Gave MoMo PIN to someone who quoted the care number: Change the PIN. That was not how 0302 611 611 vends.

0302 611 611 is for ECG’s work. *714*22# is for everyday tokens. *226# and ECG PowerApp are ECG’s own digital doors. Empty prepaid is not a reason to occupy the care line. This blog will not answer 0302 611 611 and will not take your payment.

Dial Ewale now

Keep *714*22# saved. It is the backup that works when an app, OTP, or data fails. One shortcode also pays Ghana Water and TV bills.
