OTP is the most abandoned step in ECG PowerApp, which makes it the most expensive step: people stay on it. They request five codes. They change the phone number. They install a second APK. They never buy power, or they buy it twice later when three OTPs and a USSD session all wake up.
This is a decision path for OTP failure only. If you already paid, this path is the wrong article — go to history. This blog does not process payments. The viewer shortcode is *713*414#. Official ECG USSD is *226#. The preferred everyday continuation after you give up on login is *714*22#.
Minute-by-minute, then stop
0–2 minutes. Confirm you typed the number that actually has the SIM. Check Messages, including unknown senders and the SIM inbox if dual-SIM hides threads. Toggle airplane mode once.
2–5 minutes. Dial *713*414# on that same number. If a code appears, enter it in PowerApp once. Do not request another OTP while you type.
After that, or if the viewer is empty. Decide: do you still need the app tonight? The honest answer is usually no. You need a token.
Every extra login attempt after this point is entertainment. Entertainment uses battery you need for the CIU torch.
Do not “fix OTP” with these rituals
New Gmail. VPN. Sideload. A second PowerApp clone. Texting the OTP to a Facebook helper. Changing MoMo PIN (unless you already leaked it). Resetting the phone.
You may fix OTP tomorrow with a different SIM slot and a cleared SMS inbox. Tonight the meter wants digits from vending, not from login.
The USSD continuation
Take the meter number from the plate. Dial *714*22# if you want the short name-check flow this site recommends as muscle memory, or *226# if you want ECG’s own menu and you already know it. Confirm the registered name. If it is wrong, you were about to have a worse problem than OTP. Abort.
Pay once. Wait for a token SMS. Enter usually twenty digits. If SMS is also slow, you still do not return to PowerApp login. Token SMS and OTP SMS are different factories. Sitting on a confirmed debit is correct. Opening Buy Credit in a newly installed APK is not.
ewalepay.com is available if you have data and hate diallers. OTP on PowerApp does not block a browser. Do not use the browser and USSD and a newly working app in the same five minutes.
What about the PowerApp wallet you cannot see?
If you never logged in, you cannot spend an in-app refund tonight. That money, if it exists, is not on the LCD anyway. Do not invent a reason to keep fighting OTP because you remember a wallet tile from last month. Vend a modest amount on USSD. Visit the wallet in daylight when OTP behaves. Call 0302 611 611 if a known refund is trapped and you cannot get in for days.
Teaching the house a trigger phrase
Agree: “If OTP fails, we dial, we do not download.” Write *714*22# and *226# on the paper that already has the meter number. Write *713*414# with the label “login code only.” The labels matter more than the stars.
Telco menus (*170#, *110#) are extra, not required, once two electricity codes exist.
Comparison with staying in the app
Staying wins if the viewer works and you love history. Leaving wins if the LCD is zero and the viewer is empty. Staying after five OTPs never wins.
A successful late OTP plus a successful USSD debit is the double-pay jackpot. If you already USSD-paid, ignore a sudden PowerApp welcome screen. Do not tap Buy to celebrate.
Worked example without theatre
It is 21:40. The CIU shows zero. PowerApp asks for OTP. Messages is empty. You dial *713*414# and see nothing. You open MoMo: no new debit. You photograph the plate, dial *714*22#, read the name (it is yours), pay GH₵30 once, receive twenty digits, enter them. The LCD rises. At 21:52 an OTP SMS finally arrives. You may type it tomorrow. You do not open Buy Credit to “sync.”
If at 21:40 MoMo had already left from an earlier spinner, the story stops at “hunt token.” The worked example above is only for a clean wallet. Mixing the two stories is how people quote this article while paying twice.
FAQ
OTP arrived after I already bought on USSD. Should I enter it?
Enter it only to open the app for receipts later. Do not buy again. The USSD token is the product you already own.
Can I skip *713*414# entirely?
Yes. It is an optimisation for people who still want the app in the next two minutes. Skipping straight to *714*22# is valid.
The OTP number is not my MoMo number. Must I fix that before USSD?
USSD uses the wallet on the SIM you dial from. That can be the MoMo SIM even if PowerApp login is a different number. Do not spend the night merging identities. Merge them on Saturday.
Will ECG lock me for too many OTPs?
They may throttle login. That is another reason to leave. Throttling does not throttle *226#.
OTP is a gate on an icon. When the gate sticks, walk around the building. Confirm the name on the side door. Pay once. Type the token. Unlock the icon later for sport.
