ECG Power App vendor mode versus customer login: which one a household should use

Vendor tools in PowerApp are for licensed sellers. A tenant who logs in as a vendor is in the wrong building. Buy your own prepaid as a customer, or use *714*22#.

*714*22#

ECG PowerApp is not only a consumer wallet. Parts of the ECG digital ecosystem — and some builds or companion flows people lump under “the Power App” — distinguish a customer who buys for their meter from a vendor who vends for the public. Households blur that line when a cousin “who sells ECG” offers to log the family phone into their vendor profile so top-ups become cheaper or faster.

That blur is how refunds, commissions, and compliance headaches land on a kitchen table. This article is for customers. This blog does not process payments and is not a vendor portal. If you simply need a token tonight, customer PowerApp, *226#, or *714*22# are the doors that match a private meter.

What customer mode is for

Your Ghana number. OTP (*713*414# if the SMS is late). Saved prepaid and postpaid points that belong to your life. Buy Credit. History. Fault reports. Maybe a wallet. Maybe a pay-in slip for a cheque you already paid at a bank.

Customer mode should show your registered names. It should not show a queue of strangers’ meters. It should not talk about dealer float except as a support article you do not need.

What vendor mode is for

A licensed seller who has an ECG commercial relationship: float, vending limits, maybe NFC writes for customers standing at a booth, end-of-day reports. That person is doing a job. Their login is an asset. Putting it on a tenant’s Tecno is like leaving a shop till in a bedroom.

If you are not that licensed person, you do not fix a dark room by becoming them. You buy as a customer or you visit them as a customer.

How people wander into the wrong mode

A YouTube thumbnail: “PowerApp vendor login 2026.” A file that looks like PowerApp but opens a dealer dashboard. A relative who types their vendor credentials into your phone “temporarily.” An in-app switch you tap out of curiosity after OTP.

Curiosity plus MoMo is expensive. Credentials plus a shared phone is how a vendor later accuses you of vending their float.

If the home screen language is stock, commission, dealer, or agent balance, you are not in household land. Log out. Install only from Play or App Store. Log in with your number.

Price folklore

“Vendor mode is cheaper” is a rumour that gets tenants into trouble. Your confirmation screen is the price. A licensed booth may have its own commercial terms; they are not yours to pirate through a leaked login. If a stranger offers vendor rates via WhatsApp, you are the product.

Customer channels — PowerApp, *226#, *714*22#, ewalepay.com — show an amount before PIN. That is the comparison that matters. Confirm the meter name. Do not double-pay to chase a mythical dealer discount.

When you should still walk to a vendor (as a customer)

Card/NFC meters your phone cannot write. Cash-only relatives who will not touch USSD (the booth may still demand MoMo). A phone with no GSM. A need for a human to point at the plate with you.

You pay them as a buyer. You watch the token or the card write. You leave with evidence. You do not leave with their PowerApp session on your device.

Customer login on a shop phone

A small shop that is your prepaid meter can live in customer mode on the shop Android. Label the meter. Do not also load a vendor profile “in case walk-in customers want power.” Walk-in customers should use their own USSD. Mixing float and the shop fridge on one login is how the fridge eats the float.

Call 0302 611 611 if ECG must clarify whether your account is customer or commercial. Do not ask Facebook.

Comparison

Customer PowerApp: receipts and saved meters for your plates.

Vendor tools: a business you are licensed for.

*714*22#: customer-shaped, no mode switch, works when you should never have seen a dealer screen.

*226#: ECG customer USSD.

The right comparison for a household is customer app versus customer USSD, not customer versus stolen vendor.

Float, receipts, and who the taxman thinks you are

Vendor tools exist because someone is running a book. Float in, tokens out, a report at the end of the day. If your “vendor login” is actually a leaked password, you are writing in someone else’s book. When ECG or the real dealer reconciles, your kitchen top-up can look like shrinkage.

Customer receipts are simpler: one household, one reference, one LCD. Keep those screenshots. They are enough for a landlord or for 0302 611 611. You do not need a dealer report to prove you paid your own plate. If a booth operator wants to vend for you, they use their tools while you watch, then you leave with your SMS or a written token. Your phone stays in customer clothes.

FAQ

The Play listing looks the same. How do I know I am a customer?

You signed up with a personal number, added your plate, and you buy amounts that match a home. If ECG issued you a vendor contract, you would know. If they did not, you are a customer.

Can a vendor retrieve my token if I paid in customer mode?

They can help you look at SMS. They cannot ethically demand your OTP. *713*414# is yours.

I already typed vendor details on my phone.

Change those passwords with the actual vendor. Remove the app data. Watch your MoMo. Use USSD for a while. Tell the vendor — they need to protect float.

Does Ewale have a vendor mode I should use instead?

You do not need one for a household meter. Use the ordinary ECG prepaid flow, read the name, pay once.

Mode is identity. Be a customer unless ECG made you a vendor on paper. The token on a home CIU does not pay commission to your curiosity.
