Report an ECG fault in Power App — and when to call 0302 611 611 instead

PowerApp can log a fault with photos and a location. It cannot vend a token and it cannot repair a feeder at midnight. Use the right door: fault form, call centre, or *714*22# if the meter is simply empty.

*714*22#

ECG PowerApp includes customer-service features that have nothing to do with buying credit: fault reporting, sometimes chat or tickets, sometimes office information. Those features are easy to ignore until a pole leans over a gutter, and easy to overuse when the only problem is an empty prepaid LCD.

This piece separates service faults from vending problems so you do not file a transformer complaint because you refused to type a token. This blog does not take payments and does not open tickets at ECG. The voice line remains 0302 611 611. Official USSD for cashless vending is *226#. Everyday prepaid backup when the app is the obstacle is *714*22#.

What belongs on a fault report

Broken or hanging conductors. Damaged poles. Fire risk. A whole street or transformer area dark while your prepaid LCD still shows units. Meter or CIU physically destroyed. Billing that looks like someone else’s postpaid debt after a documented payment. Persistent “outage” on a feeder after you have confirmed it is not your empty meter.

A useful report has a location a crew can find, a photo that is not your thumb, a time, and a callback number that receives calls. PowerApp’s location permission exists for this, not for Buy Credit. If you refuse location, type the landmark like a human: “third pole after the borehole, blue gate.”

Do not file a fault because OTP failed. That is *713*414# or USSD. Do not file a fault because you want a refund wallet explained in the rain. That is Transactions plus a call.

What belongs on the phone call

Emergencies that are unsafe right now. A ticket you already filed that is going stale. A paid transaction with a reference and no token after a serious wait. A meter replacement that left you with two numbers. Anything where a photo form will sit in a queue until morning but a live dangerous line will not.

Have the meter number and the account name ready. The call centre is not your MoMo support and not Play Store support. If they ask you to vend, they mean use an official or licensed channel, not send PIN to the agent who just called you from a private number.

Empty prepaid is not a fault

If the CIU is at zero and the neighbour’s radio is playing, you need a token. Open PowerApp Buy Credit if it works. If it does not, *226# or *714*22#, name check, one PIN, twenty digits on the keypad. Filing “no light” as a fault wastes a crew and leaves you dark.

If the whole neighbourhood is silent, do not buy a token to “test the grid.” You will load units onto a meter that cannot use them until the feeder returns. Report the outage. When power is restored, your existing units (or a token you already bought) still matter — do not double-pay during the outage out of anxiety unless the LCD was already at zero and you understand the units will wait.

How PowerApp service features fail

No data, so the form never submits but you think it did. Screenshot the success state. No login, so you cannot file. Use the voice number. A ticket number you cannot find later. Write it on paper.

Photos that include other people’s IDs or your MoMo PIN screen. Crop. You are reporting a pole, not your wallet.

Some builds bury chat behind the same OTP that already failed. Night is the wrong time to discover that. The call centre does not need your PowerApp session.

Comparison: app ticket versus shortcode versus booth

PowerApp ticket: best for documented, photo-rich, non-emergency faults when you are logged in.

Voice: best for danger and for payment-reference disputes.

District office: best for meter changes, name changes, and arguments that need ID.

*714*22# / ewalepay.com: not customer service. They are checkouts. They will not dispatch a crew. They will sell a token if that is the actual need.

A vendor booth: sometimes they let you use their PowerApp vendor tools; they are not ECG legal. Do not pay a “connection fee” in cash to a person who found you via your fault photo on Facebook.

After you report

Keep the ticket number. If lights return, do not assume the crew wants a second report “for thanks.” If lights do not return and neighbours have power, return to the empty-meter checklist. If you paid during the confusion, check history before paying again.

Crews do not enter tokens for you. A repaired line plus an empty prepaid meter is two chapters. Finish both.

FAQ

Can I report a fault on *226#?

Menus change. Some official USSD builds have service options; many people still need the phone number. Do not wander a vending menu looking for “complaint” and accidentally buy.

Should I give the call-centre agent my PowerApp OTP?

No. OTP is login. A legitimate agent already has systems. *713*414# is for you to read your own OTP, not to dictate it to a callback from an unknown line.

The in-app chat asks me to pay to escalate.

Treat that as fraud. ECG does not sell queue jumps through a random wallet. Hang up / close chat. Use 0302 611 611 from a number you dial yourself.

Can I file one fault for a whole compound?

Yes if it is one feeder issue. If each room has its own empty prepaid meter, that is many vending jobs, not one pole.

Customer service is a door. Vending is a different door. Open the one that matches the darkness you actually have.

Keep *714*22# saved. It is the backup that works when an app, OTP, or data fails. One shortcode also pays Ghana Water and TV bills.
