ECG PowerApp will let a single phone number carry a list of meters. That is how a landlord, a small school, or a person who also owns a cold store stays sane — until the list is a column of similar names and someone vends the empty shop into the occupied flat, or the reverse.
Multiple meters are a management feature, not a family WhatsApp group. This article is about one login doing many plates without becoming a communal password. This blog does not process the payments. Each buy still needs a name check. Each token is still usually twenty digits on the correct CIU. When the shared-phone politics fail, *714*22# on the tenant’s own SIM is cleaner than a borrowed PowerApp.
Who should share one login
Yes: one owner who pays every point, keeps every receipt, and stands responsible for refunds. Their Android, their OTP, their wallet.
No: six tenants, one caretaker phone on the stairs, everyone knows the pattern unlock. Refunds will vanish. Someone will tap the wrong row. Someone will read *713*414# when the landlord is in Kumasi and move the account.
Grey: a couple who both pay the same two meters and who trust each other with MoMo. Still label the rows. Still do not put the login on a house-help phone.
If ECG ever offers true multi-user access, use that rather than shared OTP. Until then, the number is the user.
Labelling is the actual product
When you add each prepaid meter, wait for the registered name, then add a human label: “Block A back,” “Shop freezer,” “Church,” last four plate digits. Sort them in a mental map that matches walking order in the compound.
A list sorted by ECG’s customer name is useless when three rows say the same surname. A list sorted by the order you added them is useless after a year.
Delete dead meters the day they are replaced. A replaced plate that stays on the list is a trap with a green Buy button.
The repeat-buy ritual for many rows
Open the list. Say the label out loud. Match last four digits to the plate photo if you are not standing there. Read the registered name. Amount. One PIN. History. Walk to that CIU. Do not batch-buy three meters in a frenzy and then forget which SMS is which. If you must load several, finish entry on one LCD before you PIN the next.
Double-pay on a multi-meter account often means you paid the same row twice, not that you are generous. History filters help if the app offers them. Screenshots named shop-2026-08-28.jpg help more.
Money politics
If tenants reimburse you, send them the receipt screenshot, not the login. If they buy themselves, they should not need your PowerApp. Give them the plate photo and *714*22# (or *226#). Your history will not show their USSD vends; that is expected. Their LCD will.
Do not collect all tenant MoMo onto your login “for accounting.” You will become their disputed bank. Accounting is a spreadsheet plus SMS. Vending is a name check.
A church treasurer should be the login holder. When treasurers change, change the PowerApp number in an orderly way (see the change-phone article). Do not keep a departed treasurer’s SIM in a drawer as the “ECG SIM.”
When the list itself will not load
Data, OTP, Play Services — the usual. You still know which plate is empty. USSD that one number. You do not need the full dashboard to save a freezer. *714*22# and ewalepay.com shine here: they are not trying to render your estate.
If one meter is NFC-card and the others are keypad, your brain must switch rituals. The login can hold both families. Your thumbs must not.
Faults and outages across many points
A feeder fault darkens many LCDs that still have units. Do not top-up all eight rows. Report once via PowerApp or 0302 611 611. If only one LCD is zero while others have power, that one needs a token.
Postpaid accounts on the same login need badges. Paying “all outstanding” in a hurry is how a school fees-style bill eats the prepaid budget.
A weekly habit that beats a crisis list
Once a week, while there is still credit on every LCD, open PowerApp and scroll the full list. Confirm each label still matches a living plate. Delete the room that became a store. Add the new annex from the metal sticker, not from an old SMS. Note any row whose registered name changed — that is a transfer or a data error, not a mystery to solve at night.
The same weekly pass is when you test OTP, not when the compound is shouting. If login is already sick on a Sunday afternoon, you still have time for *713*414# or for teaching *714*22# to the person who will be home on Wednesday. Crisis is a bad time to discover you have eleven rows and two of them are ghosts.
FAQ
Is there a maximum number of meters?
Enough for a small landlord. If you are a large estate, ask ECG about commercial tools rather than one consumer login with fifty rows. Vendor mode is not the DIY answer unless you are licensed.
Can two logins hold the same meter?
Avoid it. Two people Buy Credit on the same plate in the same minute is a classic double token. One owner, or all tenants on USSD with communication.
Should I save postpaid and prepaid together?
You can. The risk is product mix-up. Labels like “PREPAID shop” and “POSTPAID yard lights” are ugly and correct.
A tenant used *714*22# and I cannot see it in PowerApp.
Correct. Ask for their SMS if you must verify. The LCD is the shared truth.
One login, many plates, one brain. Label like a coward. Share OTP like a fool. When the shared phone is the problem, the shortcode on a private SIM is not a downgrade — it is how the wrong freezer stays off your receipt.
