Meter numbers are easy to mistype. Ewale showing a registered name is not decoration. If that name is not your house, the token will still be valid — for them.
Payments happen on Ewale (ewalepay.com or *714*22#), not on this blog.
What you need
- Eyes on the sticker on the meter, not a number from an old WhatsApp chat.
- Someone who knows the registered name.
The flow on *714*22#
- Read the meter number aloud.
- Enter it on *714*22#.
- Read the name that returns. If it is wrong, abort.
- Only then enter an amount.
After you pay
A cancelled session before PIN is not a purchase. A confirmed PIN on the wrong meter is a completed gift to that meter.
If something fails
- Landlord meter vs your meter: Pay the meter that serves your lights. Confirm with the people in the house.
- Shared compound: Each meter has its own number. Do not recycle a neighbour’s successful number.
Name check first, money second. That order saves tokens.
