Some ECG PowerApp menus mention cheques, pay-in slips, or bank teller references. Those words belong to a slower, older, still-real way of settling money with a utility: you paid at a bank, you hold a slip, you want ECG’s system to acknowledge it. That is not how a prepaid CIU gets units at 10pm.
Households tap anything that says “pay” when the lights die. A slip flow will ask for dates, bank names, and amounts that already moved. It will not SMS a twenty-digit token. If that is the screen you are on, you are in the wrong chapter of the app.
This blog does not process cheques or MoMo. It will not generate a slip. Official voice support is 0302 611 611. For prepaid tokens, PowerApp Buy Credit, *226#, and *714*22# remain the live rails.
What a pay-in slip feature is trying to do
You (or your company) paid ECG through a bank counter, a cheque, or a transfer that produces a teller slip. ECG’s consumer app, in some versions, lets you capture that evidence so the account — often postpaid or a commercial account — is marked paid without you physically returning to a district office the same day.
Fields usually look like: account number, bank, slip or cheque number, date, amount, sometimes a photo. Success means “we have your claim.” It does not mean “the prepaid meter just gained 40 units.” Reconciliation can take time. A cheque can bounce. A photo of a slip can be blurry. None of that is vending.
If you did not already pay at a bank, you have no slip to enter. Inventing numbers is fraud, not a workaround for OTP.
Who this is actually for
Offices that still settle by cheque. Landlords with postpaid accounts and a bookkeeper. Someone who queued at a bank because their MoMo limit exploded and they now need the slip captured.
It is not for a student with a keypad meter and a GH₵20 wallet. That student wants Buy Credit or *714*22#.
How people misuse the slip screen
They paste a MoMo reference into a cheque number field. They photograph a PowerApp receipt and upload it as a bank slip. They enter last month’s successful token ID. They do this because the Buy Credit button spun.
Misuse creates a support ticket that helps nobody. Close the slip form. Check whether MoMo already left. If yes, hunt the token. If no, vend on USSD.
OTP (*713*414#) does not unlock a secret faster slip. Login only lets you see the form.
Prepaid versus slip, side by side
Prepaid: choose meter, amount, MoMo or card, token, CIU, LCD.
Slip: already-paid bank evidence, account, waiting, maybe a postpaid reconnection later.
If your hardware has a keypad, you are almost certainly in the first row. If your service is a monthly bill without a token ritual, you might be in the second — and you still should not invent a cheque.
Card/NFC prepaid is a third row (write the card). A slip will not write NFC either.
When a cheque is the actual story
Follow ECG’s current bank list and the in-app instructions. Keep the physical slip. Photograph it in focus. Enter the postpaid account, not a prepaid meter number, unless ECG’s form explicitly asks for the number on your plate and you know that plate is the billed account.
Then wait. Call 0302 611 611 if the account still shows debt after the published processing time. Bring the slip to the district office if the app capture fails. Do not “also” buy prepaid on the same account unless you truly have both products.
Do not double-capture the same slip in a panic. Two uploads are not two payments, but they are two chances to confuse a clerk.
Everyday electricity without stationery
If the fridge is the problem and you have a prepaid meter, ignore cheque menus for the rest of your life unless your life changes. Save the meter in customer PowerApp. Keep *226#. Keep *714*22# / ewalepay.com for the nights the app grows extra offices you do not work in.
Telco menus (*170#, *110#) also will not cash a cheque. They take wallet money. That is fine. Use them as prepaid or bill-pay, not as slip capture.
FAQ
Can I pay ECG by cheque inside PowerApp without going to a bank?
The slip feature records a bank event. It is not a digital cheque book. If the app offers a live card payment, that is a different button — and still not a keypad token unless you are in Buy Credit.
The slip uploaded. Lights still off.
If you are prepaid, you used the wrong tool. Buy a token. If you are postpaid and disconnected, reconnection is operational, not instant magic. Call.
Should tenants upload the landlord’s cheque slip?
Only if the landlord asks and the account is theirs to settle. Uploading someone else’s slip onto your login is how arguments start. Tenants with prepaid should not live in this menu.
Does a pay-in slip expire in the app?
Banks and ECG have processing windows. A slip from last year belongs at an office, not in a midnight upload. Keep paper.
Stationery features in a utility app are for stationery payments. Tokens are for keypads. Pick the object you are holding — a cheque or a dark CIU — and use the matching door.
